What does an infrared thermometer measure?

An infrared thermometer measures the heat radiation reaching it from the body - the body's temperature can basically be directly determined from it. But it should be noted that the reflections of nearby bodies and heat radiation coming from the atmosphere and absorbed there also reach the IR thermometer.
